Last Place Wisdom: Express Edition 2

Well, so much for my hope that express blog posts would get me writing more, since that has already failed given it's been 3 weeks since the last posting. Apparently going on a massive losing streak since the last post hasn't given me more enthusiasm for writing more, but given the big trades that went down in the TFLOEG this week, it feels necessary for me to weigh in.

First of all, despite my season not going at all how I expected it to, I'm living up to my preseason prediction that I wouldn't stress out or over react to poor performances. I still stand by process, and some of the things that have led to my 2-5 record have been greatly out of my control.

Some of you might wonder if I was hesitant to pull off another trade with Steve given how Jacobs for Mixon has turned out. I can't deny that it's been a clear loss, given Jacobs has taken a step forward while Mixon is running for sub-1 YPC behind a horrible offensive line; however it might surprise you to learn that my current record would be the same regardless of whether I made the trade or not. Despite my short term miss, I think a good way to approach trades in fantasy sports is if you have the opportunity to acquire the guy you think is the more talented player, you should take it, and as good as I think Jacobs is Mixon is probably more talented. It's why when Steve approached me about trading away Diggs, a player than I love, I didn't have to think that long about it because for as good as I think Diggs is, I can only hope he reaches the point that Tyreek Hill has been playing at for most of the last 2 seasons.

Of course if Hill goes out and gets himself suspended now while Diggs keeps on doing what he's doing, there's no guarantees I don't finally say screw it and quit the league all together.

Trade Thoughts

  • I told you what I thought about trading Diggs for Hill, but I guess the one other point I want to make is I don't see my trade as totally throwing in the towel on the season. I think Everett is closer to Engram than you might realize, and this trade sets me up for next year without being a total tank.
  • Aaron Jones has been traded twice since I last wrote. I didn't like the Dawson and Clarke trade (even though I called it), because I'm not sure DJ Moore is as good as everyone says he is (or will be), and would much rather have Jones. As for the second trade, I'm surprised Clarke gave up the upside of Jones for the security of Henry, as I think it works against his usual methods. Too early to say how it will work out, but seeing Aaron move Henry in an attempt to look at next season gives me a lot of positivity about his future.
  • Rodgers for Odell Beckham - This is an interesting trade to comment on. Good on Travis for getting what I consider to be great value for Rodgers, as he too has given himself something to build around next season. It's weird for Clarke, obviously Rodgers could be a league winner, but I wonder how much of an upgrade over Murray he ends up being.
