Last Place Wisdom: Playoffs are here! - A long awaited return
Let's be serious here, when it comes to blog posting this year, I'm the worst (it's debatable whether blog posting or Christmas tree decorating is my bigger shame at the moment). For that, I want to apologize for everyone who has missed out on receiving any last place wisdom for these past few weeks. My typical week would go something like this; decide to get ahead of the game and write an extra blog post on a Monday....forget about it until Thursday comes around and then decide to write on Friday, then forget about it again until Friday at 6pm and decide that I don't feel like writing on a weekend. And repeat. It's gotten so bad that I've forgotten everything I missed out on commenting on, what my last blog was about (other than P.O.D), or many of the jokes or comments I wanted to make at the time. Blame it on work that has kept me running around for the past month, or having 2 kids, or quickly having wrapped up a strong playoff position, or just a general sense of laziness, but the slacking has gone on long enough. The playoffs are finally here however, and that deserves to be commented on, so for the rest of the season I hope to be putting out regular Last Place Wisdom posts (at least until I forget about them until the weekend has already arrived).
It was a pretty good regular season, although maybe less memorable to me given the lack of conflict that surrounded my team in particular. I locked up a playoff spot pretty early, and despite not scoring a ton of points myself I ran into an incredible amount of luck. Things did get a little interesting at the end of the season in the fight for 1st overall, but honestly the bragging rights that come from that little award mean very little at the end of things. However, the to TFLOEG podcast.....no mentions at all of the Keith-glorious Basterds for team of the year? Really? All I have to say to that is scoreboard.
On that note, to get the award show before the regular season is even over kinda threw me off. It still feels like there is so much fantasy football left to be played, although given my own production at the blog this year I'm not one to be throwing stones for how things end up getting produced.
Mr. Manager of the Week Award
On that note again, the most memorable part of the podcast was Aaron's incredible love for Meatloaf. It reminded me about the types of things you hear about Kim Jong-il in a blatant piece of propaganda. I'm not sure what Aaron's purpose in spreading this propaganda is, and maybe it's not propaganda at all and Meatloaf really is a fantasy savant. All I know is that it made me think of Meatloaf and Aaron in a way I hadn't before; and if Meatloaf really is as good at football as Aaron claims he is, it would be remiss of me to not highlight his accomplishments in some way, so this one's for you Mr. Loaf.
The Papa John's Pizza Positivity Party of the Week
My personal soundtrack at the moment is pretty much devoted to Christmas music at this time of the year, but when I need something to listen to while walking the dogs I've found myself more and more drawn to classic P.O.D. hits, and so I wanted to pass the positivity around. While the number of teams making the playoffs has been a point of contention in the league, the fact that so many teams were playing meaningful games right till the end of the regular season is a nice facet of our rules. There will be heartbreak after this week (and there already is for Travis, who I know really wanted to make the playoffs this year) but everyone who still has something to play for should enjoy the fact that they are still alive and anyone can win it all.
Playoffs!?!?!
I'm not going to be making extensive playoff predictions, I feel it's bad form with my team still in contention to be guessing one way or the other. Here are a few thoughts I've had however:

I'm not going to be making extensive playoff predictions, I feel it's bad form with my team still in contention to be guessing one way or the other. Here are a few thoughts I've had however:
- There are 4 teams that have won a championship, and 4 teams that have not. I think we continue our streak of first time winners.
- I think in a couple of weeks teams will be glad they're not facing Curtis in the playoffs. The teams that missed the playoffs had some bad injury luck this year, and I think that speaks highly for the competitiveness even with the poorer performing teams.
- Someone is going to lose because of a bad injury; it happened to me last year with Andy Dalton, and someone is going to have to deal with the "what if" that comes with that.
On the Next Last Place Wisdom
- I try and provide some actual insight and analysis into our league.
- I write an extra-long special edition with all the free-time I have after being fired for getting into it with Tall Bike Tommy.
- I recap the Championship after going missing for a month.
