Last Place Widsom: Week 8 - Yeah, I skipped 3 weeks

So I've been conflicted these past few weeks; embrace the villain role or set the record straight and become the hero that this league needs? Going off my political views, it's clear that the views I hold are Literally Hitler (small government, libertarian leaning, Western civilization promoting, anti-Elitism), so associating it with Nazism is no big deal. However, when it comes to my fantasy team, hearing the Deplorables being compared to the juggernaut of the Third Reich pushed me over a line. In 1940 Nazi Germany was a seemingly unstoppable force, conquering most of Europe and threatening the entire free world (and Russia). Meanwhile, my fantasy team is in the middle of the pack in scoring and barely winning most weeks. Nazi Germany stood for totalitarianism and Aryan supremacy, while my team has adopted Harambe as our spirit animal, with the message of love and peace that his life should inspire in all of us. I've been turned into the evil empire that people should be cheering against (aka the Patriots) when in reality I'm the scrappy underdog that is pulling out wins with hard work, the grace of God and a little bit of luck. In short, my team is everything that is good and true about 'Merica, and it's time to make it great again.

Why has this error been allowed to propagate? Basically you've been lied to by the members of the Lugenpresse that make up the TFLOEG Podcast, who turned Aaron into the Jewish resistance despite being the clear leader in points for this year. While other teams are being led by rosters filled with all stars, I'm squeaking out wins on the back of hardworking everyman and butt of league jokes Frank Gore, and the criminally overlooked Matthew Stafford. It's up to me to set the record straight, and I ask all critical readers and listening who they're going to trust? The one who always believed in RB Superstar Jay Ajayi, or the one telling you to fool around with future CFL training camp fodder Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams? I think every red blooded American knows the answer to that one.

So work, and life and vacation has led me to take a  longer break from blog writing that I liked, but I'm back and that's ready to change. There has been too much that I missed to catch up on it all, but I do want to provide some quick thoughts on the numerous trades that have taken place.

  • Clarke managed to steal the Coleman's from Dawson in what I consider a pretty lopsided trade.
  • John got Brady back for Devontae Booker in what looked to be a pretty fair trade to me.
  • Gurley for Gronkowski upset Travis, but I can understand the deal for both sides (although drafting Elliott would have been ideal in hindsight).
  • Aaron trades Booker away for Brees. Again this is a fair trade, but if I'm Aaron I probably just keep Brady if I don't think that highly of Booker.
  • Dawson trades Murray and Green to John for Nelson, Ingram and White. For the record, I never came out and directly said I thought John was playing for next year, it just possibly looked that way. I didn't expect John to be able to trade a handful of players trending down in my view for a couple of stars trending up. John has really compromised his depth, but he used this trade to create a very formidable starting lineup if he can find another RB. Dawson on the other hand, just likes to trade.
  • Clarke trades Dawson Beasley for Forte. Forte might have struggled mightily for a couple of weeks, but I think I like the upside of a starting RB more than the steadiness of Beasley.
  • So I think Clarke got the slightly better end of his previous trades with Dawson and Andrew, however on this one I think I give the edge to Mike. I have no faith in Edelman, as that ended up being a sticking point on potential trades between Mike and I earlier in the season. I also don't think that highly of Matt Ryan, as finding accepting QB play isn't that difficult. Mike found some talent that he desperately needed, and if Dez can come back to his old self (either this season or next) Mike comes out ahead.
Mr. Manager Award of the Week

Well, actually a couple of weeks. I'm going to give it to John for what he's been able to accomplish through trading these past 3 weeks. Being able to greatly increase his high end talent is worth the reduction in depth that it took, and although John and I have a friendly love/hate relationship between our 2 teams, he's set up his team for success in the post season. The one thing that reduces my fear however is to know that somehow John will find a way to heartbreakingly lose come playoff time, because that's what the Fear Boners do.

The Papa John's Pizza Emo Shoutout of the Week
This is the 2nd time for this person, but halfway through the season Steve is still sitting in last place and his struggles have been well discussed. His roster still does not look like a last place roster to me, but by leaving the 2nd most points on his bench and some bad luck, thing's just haven't been able to swing his way. He has one or two weeks to turn things around still, however his window is quickly closing. But chin up Steve, the American dream is still within your grasp and in the meantime, nothing says Emo quite like playing guitar and pouring your heart out in an absolute downpour.

On the next Last Place Wisdom

  • I leave you hanging another 3 weeks as more important things come up.
  • We begin looking for a new manager as Clarke quits in a huff after we all buy the Arrested Development stickers and we all blow our wad on what was supposed to be a dry run.
  • 'Merica.
