Last Place Wisdom: I am finished with you, 2015 fantasy football season.

It's crazy to look back and think of how far we have come. 5 months ago, I had just started making jokes about 50 Cent, Papa John's was not even on my radar, and I was still excited about the fantasy possibilities of Melvin Gordon and Devante Adams. Now, we're going to watch Peyton Manning play for the Superbowl and we're actually surprised about it, since my thinking the would be the steal of the draft turned out to be one of the worst calls I made all year.

As we prepare for what I'm certain will be a Superbowl party that lives up to the high standards that has been set in the past, by slow cooking our pulled pork or icing our cookies in the shape of San Fransisco's favourite piece of human anatomy, I figured that it's about time for one more Last Place Wisdom and to put the finishing touches on what was another fantastic season of the TFLOEG. But first, Mr. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Mr. Manager of the Year Award
There's really only one choice, and that's the new champ, Stan. Stan's team was far from dominant, he was only the 6th highest scoring team, but it had very few weaknesses and was consistent when it mattered the most. There was no one key to his success this year, and his win was a result of solid keepers, good drafting, smart trades and timely waiver wire additions. Murray and Thomas were his core keepers, Palmer and Cooper were draft day bargains. Sammy Watkins ended up performing admirably after Stan traded for him, and Jordan Reed was a key member of Stan's playoff run after picking him up from his injury.

Stan's team is a testament to lots of smart, small moves adding up to win himself the ultimate prize and a brand new jersey. One could do worse than to emulate how he put his team together.

Papa John's Pizza Emo Shoutout of the Week
There are a lot of teams that could end up with the final Emo Shoutout of the season. If Dalton doesn't get injured, given the rest of the playoff matchups I run the table, and am left wondering what could have been. As the last Emo Shoutout winner, it doesn't feel right to get it this week however. Steve has the distinction of being a 2-time runner up who is still waiting for his first championship, and who lost this year in large part thanks to a 22 point kicker performance, and he is certainly a worthy candidate for the final shoutout.

I've been waiting to use this one however, and since I didn't get to use this one when he actually lost it's time to use it now. John had the strongest team for most of the regular season, as well as the best performance in the championship week, but one bad week during the playoffs is enough to wreck even the most well put together rosters. John knows how hard it can be to win a championship, and despite his best efforts this just wasn't his year. As a consolation, feel free to get lost in the piercing good looks and striking blue eyes of Jared Leto, and start dreaming of next year.

On The Next Last Place Wisdom
  • We're treated to what probably ends up being a pretty boring Superbowl...but there's no chance for the Patriots to win this one so it's not so bad.
  • I discuss the league changes decided upon at the annual owners meeting. 5 months to go!
  • I desperately try and trade for another keeper, since I might be only keeping 3 (and one of those is Eddy Lacy). Start making me offers!

  1. Well done Keith, and thank you for all the great contributions all year! ( I have alot of keeper potential on my roster and will be looking to grab an early round draft pick if anyone is interested in some offseason chatter)
