Last Place Wisdom: Playoff Semi Final - Trust Me
I have no funny stories this week. No Simpons quotes, Tom Petty songs or 50 cent memes. Even speaking about the deliciousness of Papa John's Pizza, with it's thick melted cheese, zesty sauce and fresh toppings can only do so much to get past being eliminated from the playoffs. I know what you're thinking, am I preparing to abandon Papa John's for letting my fantasy team down when I needed it the most? But I think the real question is; did I do something to let Papa John's down instead? That is going to take some soul searching on my part, and I think I will be back with a season wrap up to look at exactly where things might have went wrong for myself and others.
In the meantime, I'll continue to provide my thoughts on the rest of the playoffs.
The Papa John's Emo Shoutout of the Week
Mike and Shayne deserve some mention here as well, as it's never a good feeling to see your team eliminated from the playoffs, but I think the heartbreaking nature of the losses that Aaron and I suffered puts us a little higher up the Emo list. For Aaron, he caught John on a bad week, as John would have lost to every other playoff team and most of the non-playoff teams as well. Unfortunately for Aaron, he decided against playing DeAngelo Williams on his bench and cost his team 20 points.
For my loss, there was nothing I realistically could have done. Andy Dalton's injury sunk me, and if I would have started just about any other QB I would have advanced. I was expecting Dalton to screw me in the playoffs by having a bad game, so the fact it was injury makes me feel a little better, but it still is a crappy way to lose. And because it's my turn this week, I'm picking one of my favourites from the genre. Don't worry guys, I really am ok, but just enjoy the song.
Playoff Matchups
NINERS vs oh that's nasty - We have a rematch of last year's championship game, which gives this matchup some added tension. Stan's team has gotten hot at the right time this season, and he might be able to ride his Bills to another win in the playoffs. Watkins is finally showing the skill that made him a top pick last draft, and McCoy has been the type of consistently good RB that a team needs in order to win in the fantasy playoffs. The big news for Dawson's team is that he looks to be taking a shot on AJ McCarron rather than going with Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill hasn't been great, so I understand it, but going with an unproven QB in a must win is a risky proposition. Fun fact, Tannehill had 30 points to help Dawson with the championship last year, for what it's worth. Players to watch: McCarron and Green will need some chemistry for Dawson, meanwhile Stan might get a start out of Denard Robinson, who is a nice option considering Stan doesn't have a lot of depth beyond him at the moment.
You Can Run but You Can't Hyde vs The Fear Boners - As a family affair there is a lot of intrigue going into this matchup as well. John appears to be the early favourite, but a solid Thursday night has put Steve into a good position going into the weekend. Unfortunately for Steve, injuries and poor play have forced him to rely on less than consistent players at RB and in his flex. For his sake it'd be nice if Carolina came out and announced they were going with Fozzy Whitaker prior to the game as having to start Theo Riddick in playoff game is something I would expect out of my team this year. John's team is pretty consistent, although he has his own question marks in Hightower or Amendola. Players to Watch: Steve is relying on Lockett, and it could pay off in a big way as he has the ability to score bust out with a lot of points.
