Last Place Wisdom: The Lull Before the Storm
I'm sure I'm not the only person who has noticed that action in BBM and on the blog has slowed down dramatically as we've approached the playoffs. I'm really not surprised, as teams have had less and less to play for and less and less to be enthusiastic about as things get set in stone. Dawson and John get to play one game for the regular season champion bragging rights, meanwhile the rest of us get to determine a final playoff ranking that I don't think will matter too much. There are no teams in the playoffs who I think are noticeably weaker matchups than others, so to be honest no matter who ends up playing who I think we will see some good games come round one of the playoffs.
The big story going into the playoffs is going to be which team can be healthy enough to win it all. Hurns, Gronkowski and Mosley were the latest casualties to the injury bug, and as I'm writing this it's looking like Lacy might miss some more time right when he was starting to look like Old Eddy Lacy rather than Cheeseburger Eddy Lacy. If it comes down to health, John and Stan are clearly the frontrunners in that department at the moment, so it's probably not surprising to see them with the longest winstreaks in the league at the moment. Hopefully no one else goes down to major injuries prior to the start of the playoffs, and we can see teams facing off with the best rosters they can.
Mr. Manager of the Week Award
This is a really hard award to give out at this point in the season. Team's can no longer make advantageous trades to improve themselves going forward. The waiver wire is offering pretty slim pickings (although Kamar Aitken, Alfred Morris and Scott Chandler could play a role come playoff time). There weren't even any really particularly close matchups that were swung by a smart lineup decision.
For that reason, I'm not going to give it to Clarke for his fantastic blog post. Seeing guest posts is what I like to see, so he deserves some credit for his excellent recap of the draft and what went on to bring us to the point we are at.
The Papa John's Pizza Emo Shoutout of the Week
Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook might have noticed that I have been posting favourite Christmas songs during this advent season. In a bit of cross-promotion, I'm going to be giving this shoutout to Shayne, who has had a lot of things go wrong for him this season. Losing Gronkowski is possibly the biggest injury any team could suffer going into the playoffs, as there is no other player who gives a team as big of an advantage at his position than Gronk. When you add that on top of Shayne losing Forsett for the season, having Aaron Rodgers not looking like Aaron Rodgers, and Jeremy Hill's struggles, Shayne has to be feeling a little down about his chances. I was too, but he might have found a ray of hope in Alfred Blue and Kamar Aitken, so it's tough to count him out. Chin up buddy, Christmas time is almost here.
And for those of you wanting to listen to the whole piece:
Well That Surprised Me
That Wouldn't Surprise Me

- I could still finish as high as 4th place in the league. I wasn't expecting that, and I don't expect it to happen, but it stuck out to me.
- Unlike Clarke I wasn't super high on Stan's team going into the season, but he has a chance at being able to finish in 2nd place in the league. Ever since he first joined he has always been competitive, so we'll have to see if this can be his year to get over the hump.
That Wouldn't Surprise Me
- The only item I can put here is that it wouldn't surprise me for Travis to beat me once again this week. Ending the regular season at 2-11 with the 2 wins coming against me. That would FeelBadMan
