Papa's John's Pizza presents: Last Place Wisdom: Week 9 - The Papa John's Pizza Hour

So I can't say my season would've been over had I lost last week, but I would've been in a lot of trouble for sure. At 2-6 and in 11th place, not only would I have been 2 games behind the last playoff spot, I'd also have to pass at least 3 teams to get the spot. My team had let me down all season long, including many Monday night nightmares, but that's when I discovered something that no matter how my team performs would never let me down; a chain of pizza restaurants founded by "Papa" John Schnatter in Jeffersontown Kentucky providing great food at reasonable prices for the past 21 years. While Eddy Lacy, Calvin Johnson and Melvin Gordon might disappoint, a 12" hand rolled crust smothered in tangy sauce and a melted blend of cheeses, covered in spicy Italian sausage, thin sliced mushrooms, black olives and vine-ripened Roma tomatoes will never disappoint. For that reason, and to keep the fantasy karma that Papa has brought my team going, I'm going to be making a few changes around here.
Better Ingedients, Better Pizza, Papa John's

Other bloggers might be phoning it in, but you can be assured just like Papa John's I will not be (unless I'm phoning in an order for Hawaiian BBQ Chicken and a Sriracha Meat). Thanks to the win last week, the high number of points my team has scored, and to the incredible parity facing our league at this point, I am now back into a playoff spot. Only 2 wins separate 3rd and 11th however, so pretty much the entire league is still up for grabs right now. It's going to be fun down the stretch, and in future columns I will be sure to do a playoff watch so you can try and make sense of who needs to win and what the playoff scenarios might look like.

Looking ahead to the future, the Trade Deadline is November 27th for those of you who are interested. Trades have been happening at a record pace, and with Dawson potentially looking at selling a few major pieces I can foresee a number of others ones happening. With so many teams still having a shot, I'm not sure how much selling is going to take place (unlike Papa John's, which is always ready to sell you your next meal), but there could be some interesting deals to be made especially if a team or 2 drops out of the race.

Well That Surprised Me
  • Andrew's struggles have been a bit of a surprise to me. Injuries have played a big role, and the Seahawks struggles haven't helped either. Andrew is relying on the Browns to come through for him this week, which is always a risk since they aren't called the "Factory of Sadness" for nothing, but so far it's looking ok. He'll need Forte back sooner rather than later.
  • Aaron trading Brady back to John. I know myself and others have been on John for a while about how much better his team would look with Brady, and now it's happened. I didn't image Aaron trading him now, but I have to admit he got a pretty decent return.
  • Did you know that Papa John's has been an Official Sponsor of the NFL since 2010. As football fans and fans of Fantasy, don't you think we owe it to them to show them our support for making sure the games we love are played every Thursday, Sunday and Monday from September to February?

That Wouldn't Surprise Me
  •  If Dawson ends up trading Le'Veon Bell, and then creates a league wide uproar after different owners feel like they would have/did offer more. If Dawson does move Bell, it will have massive repercussions and could shape championships for this year and years to come.
  • If Mike chases down Shayne for 2nd in the League. Mike has a very tough schedule going forward, but with Jeremy Langford potentially starting for him the next couple of weeks, it's just simply another weapon to an already good lineup.
  • If our blog is able to pick up it's first official sponsor thanks to my incessant shilling. To any Papa John's reps who might be reading this, get in touch, I'm more than happy to keep singing the praises of your fantastic product.
Thanks Papa John's for saving me from being the high school emo kid of yesteryear!
