Power Powell Rankings Week 8: Better Look Me In The Eyes

Another week's recap from the Commish. After last week's guilt trip I bet you're all on the edge of your seats. I don't apologize for what came out last week because it's how I feel in my heart of hearts, however perhaps the fantasy football blog was not the proper place for some needed catharsis.

This week though it'll be back to what you love, third person on the telephone line insight and flawed opinion based rankings! Britta for the win?

To contrast my post last week, Keith wrote up an annual midseason highlight clip show. My initial thoughts we're he may have pre-maturely shot his wad as it was only week 7, but on second mathematical checking this would mean he believes the season ends at the beginning of week 14.  If you follow this neurotic over analysis you'll realize that the playoffs start on week 14. Keep with me here: Keith thinks he's not making the playoffs. I'll let that shock settle in.

Keith and I have always said that fantasy is not as fulfilling if one of us is having a down year. Heck, the only reason he's not in the playoffs right now is that Monday Night Nightmare concerning Antonio Gates. If that had gone another way, I'd be out and he'd be in.

We overuse the word parity a lot in this league. Sometimes I feel like we say it to make the crappier teams feel better about being on the bottom and other times we say it to make sense of the log jam of .500 records in the standings. Right now, Keith and I both have losing records and the difference from my team being the third rank team instead of the seventh ranked team is a measly win. This is the most parity of parity.

It get's crazier still. Clarke's team is built to title contend next year and Travis may pull his socks up by the end as well. Face it jerks, our team is built to be filled with 7-7 teams from year to year now. How's that for fantasy socialism!

Granted in order for this shift to take place stronger teams needed to help the weaker ones, but now we've got ourselves a real bolshevik revolution cooking.

On a personal level I'm not sure how I feel about this paradigm shift in TFLOEG. I'm not really upset about having a losing record. I'd be a liar if I said I was fine that it's Dawson's team that's crushing it and not my usual entry in the fray. I'm happy for Coops, this is what I want in TFLOEG. A Champion returning into the next season with a dominant entry and ambition to win a second consecutive title? I'm hard as a rock. TFLOEG has never had a two time champ, never mind a dynasty. If you're a scholar of my PPRs, you'll know that anytime I pick a champ they lose. I hope this year I'm wrong, for a personal reason.

What personal reason would you have for Dawson winning this year?

Easy:

It'd be stupid, ridiculous and, above all, unfashionable if Dawson got a second " jersey. But, I'm putting this out there.

A new TFLOEG bylaw:

Concerning an owner already owning a jersey and winning a second championship:

1. Owner will have the opportunity to have a second jersey gifted to them at the end of the season.

There it is. Everyone knows I love me Dawson rocking bling. But, a belt for the swagger? Child Please! TFLOEG infinitely better.

As with any proposed TFLOEG laws we need a majority vote, but c'mon "we'd be stupid not to". I expect Yeas and Nehs in the comments section below.

Let It Begin!!!

1. Oh That's Nasty (Last week 1)- Dawson's team maintains the status quo of dropping 120+ points each and every week. He's the undisputed front runner with no real competition in my opinion.

2. NFL OWNER (Last week 2)- Shayne's team put some space between the second and third spots with a win over Steve last week. He'll be a difficult opponent in the playoffs and depending on the schedule will be a frisky team to win it all. That is if he presses the save button after changing his line ups on the computer, jk jk lol.

3. You can run but you can't Hyde (Last week 3)- Steve danced with the devil in the pale moonlight and sent Colin Kaepernick out as his QB. People might mock this decision, but in the weeks prior it was a good bet he would score the necessary 20+ points to be a front runner for the week. Unfortunately, he had to endure that terrible feeling of seeing a real uphill climb after a tragic Thursday night. It happens to the best of us champ!

4. NINERS (Last week 4)- Stan sticks at number four, but his district manager is nipping at his heels for the spot. The one thing I've always been amazed by is that Stan's team's, year after year, often have an unexpected problem at running back and he's able to find a solution despite this. I wish I could learn this skill when it comes to QBs.

5. My Ball Zack Ertz (Last week 7)- As alluded to, Aaron is now comfortably in the playoff fray. While the injury to Arian Foster may make this rise temporary, a risky trade might rocket him further up the boards. The trade deadline is coming up, does Aaron have the minerals?

6. Scraps (Last week 9)- Mike is taking us to waiver wire school. He has a winning record and will be a force to be reckoned with in December.

7. Honey Badger Don't Care (Last week 6)- I don't understand what's going on with Andrew's team. The Seahawks put up an impressive Thursday night and yet his other players decide to put in a pedestrian Sunday. It has to be frustrating, but he's still closing out the playoff teams.

8. Layeth The Smacketh Down (Last week 11)- If Curt's team keeps putting together these gritty wins it'll be interesting to see if he can leapfrog a team or two in December for a playoff spot. He lost last week, but that was mostly due to bye week blues in my opinion.

9. The Darkwing Ducks (Last week 10)- Clarke's team could be stronger this week, with the possible return of Dez. The future is bright on this team.

 10. The Fear Boners (Last week 5)- My team is having a similar season as Andrew had last year. But, the real reason I'm down here is fantasy socialism and making the same mistakes post draft as I did last year. Step your game up and have a little faith in yourself bro.

11. The Keith-glorius Basterds (Last week 8)- That being said, Keith is having a similarly nightmarish season and has also alluded to possibly not making the playoffs. I can't really see him not making the dance, but his team does need to start putting together points and he can't really afford to drop many more matches.

12. No Punt Intended (Last week 12)- Travis is keeping active in the waiver wire and trading circuit. As an expansion team I think this is admirable and if he doesn't get too discouraged he'll become a more complete owner by working through the adversity.

There you have it fellas,

-The Commish

  1. I would love to vote on this, but it seems a conflict of interest. Also, if I'm excluded there cannot be a tie.
