Memoirs of a Champ, Vol. II
Let me start out by saying that I am rather excited for the 2015 NFL season.
I've compared everyone's rosters more than a few times, and have come to the conclusion that this season should be very competitive - even for our two expansion clubs. At least on paper, there appears to be exceptional parity in TFLOEG this season, which I suppose is a credit to each of you.
I've already scoured the waiver wire numerously. I'm not sure why, but I guess I keep hoping to see something I missed on my previous perusal. Thank goodness that Montee Ball situation didn't backfire like I feared it might.
Travis (manager of No punt intended) and I nearly consummated a blockbuster pre-season trade. I was initially interested in Coleman as a handcuff for Freeman, then he expressed his keen interest in Abdullah. We negotiated several different combinations and iterations, but the closest we came was this franchise-defining eight-player, swap:
Andrew Luck, Tevin Coleman, Golden Tate and Victor Cruz
for
Tony Romo, Ameer Abdullah, A.J. Green and Larry Fitzgerald.
I try not to tinker too much in the early going, but sometimes it's tempting. There's so much value going both directions in this particular trade that it's simultaneously very exciting and very scary to imagine, and thus, difficult to actually pull the trigger. I respect Travis' decision to stand pat, as it is usually wise to trust your draft and your long term plan rather than constantly tweaking something that isn't necessarily broken. I was ready to accept the trade, but I'm actually somewhat relieved that it didn't happen - the regret of lost production can be a bitter pill to swallow.
Needless to say, the trade winds are blowing and the rumourmill is running at full speed -- and we haven't even played a down of football yet!
I wish everyone good luck this season - may the best manager win.
Enjoy the season opener tonight!
