Power Powell Rankings: Week 8 - Parity, It's Working Against Me!
If you listen to the administration and reporting side of the NFL you'll hear a buzzword used to an almost mind numbing volume, Parity. The theory is that if there is enough experience and desire to win amongst the teams in the league, then there will be an equal playing field for wins and losses each week. This is due to the implementation of each other's good ideas and learning from the bad ones before you make the same mistakes. The result is there usually are no undeniably unbeatable teams and no stink bomb teams either (although even the NFL isn't in a vacuum).
Our league is moving in a similar trajectory. In two years I expect to see just one long list of ten 4-3 or 3-4 teams is the inevitable evolution of TFLOEG rankings. This week showed just like I posted last week that any team can win Any Given Sunday. Conversely, even the mighty first place and lowly last place positions can change...
1. The NFL Owner (Last Week 3): Shane has taken down the former first and second ranked teams in consecutive weeks and he still hasn't got Josh Gordon back.
2. The Fear Boners (Last Week 1): I'm on a losing skid, but it's due to star players underperforming a little or a lot. I think I should be able to regroup this week with a well timed trade.
3. Sideliners (Last Week 2): Steve is still looking fine, but our skids are happening at the same time and in similar ways. The league table is going to look very different this time next week as we are going head to head to see whose better top to bottom.
4. The Keith-glorious Basterds (Last Week 4): Keith snaps his losing streak a decisive win over Stan. Even when his team has lost he has put up enough points to solidify the four spot and possibly move up to the third spot after this weekend. Things are looking up!
5. Aaron "Primetime" Clapperton (Last Week 6): Aaron is getting a lot of production out of his predicted "sleeper MVP" Ahmed Bradshaw. He seems to be a crucial part of the NFL's number one offense and has no signs of stopping. Aaron may have finally become a dark horse contender after a complete dismantling of The Fear Boners.
6. Oh That's Nasty (Last Week 7): Dawson got a win over Andrew, but it was a squeaker. Keith often mentions that he is amazed that Dawson is doing so well despite his running back issues and I have to agree. The loss of AJ Green has only effected his point total as a team and once he returns this week Dawson should be able to soar!
7. NINERS (Last Week 5): Stan fell back down to earth due to some hard choices at running back. These are often the worse loses as he had the necessary tools to take Keith down on the bench. It's not going to get any easier for Stan as another Altus matchup is occurring this week with the red hot Aaron "Primetime" Clappertons.
8. BISP (Last Week 10): Free at last, free at last! Mike wrote a cheque saying he's going to win out for the rest of the season, so far so good the last two weeks.
9. RW Throws A Sexy Deep Ball (Last Week 8): Arguably the most heart crushing season in the TFLOEG is Andrew's. He loses close matchups and when his team goes off the opponent goes HAM. All Andrew can do is continue to put the same solid lineup in week after week and hope for a different outcome.
10. What Are The Chances? (Last Week 9): A new bottom of the pile. This team has good pieces, but it's going to come down to adding the right players based on matchups each week for Curt.
There you go fellas, a new number 1 and 10. As Bob Dylan would say "The times they are a changin'", I'm not sure Tom Petty had anything to say as on the nose with regards to TFLOEG.
