Power Powell Rankings: Week 5 - What The Hell Is Goin' On Out Here?
Vince Lombardi the greatest coach ever or an overrated dinosaur? I know which way Shayne would lean, however I gotta agree that he summed up this week four pretty well for being an old fossil:
Almost every "sure fire" first or second round draft pick has a question about them. Obviously, some worse then others (e.g. Adrian Peterson vs Calvin Johnson's injuries vs Chip Kelly's run game) but the playing field for bad luck is as wide open as it could be every week. It's like living in the Seven Kingdoms, any character can die at any moment. That kind of life expectancy will affect the ups and the downs, soooooooo.....
1. The Fear Boners (Last Week 1)- I got pretty lucky in the Boner Bowl week with both of my starting RBs on the BYE Week Blizzard. Teddy Bridgewater came up big for me, but for the first time this season I went against my heart and started Patterson over an angry Steve Smith Sr. I've got a huge match-up against Keith this week and then Shayne after that, staying on the Iron Throne may prove difficult.
2. The SideLiners (Last Week 5)- Fresh of his "statistic correction victory" (read: smoke baby light magik) last week, Steve put up the highest point margin this week as a statement. Charles is playing up to his first round status finally, Asiata was one of the highest scoring RBs this week as well, Gore finally got some work and Kniles Davis got consistent touches. Not too bad for a witch of the Lord of Light who keeps texting me thinking his RB situation is shaky.
3. The Keith-Glorious Basterds (Last Week 2)- Keith's team put up another solid week and narrowed the gap in the points due to my leaving of points on the bench. This week's match up will determine who is number two and potentially number one in the league. While I'd rather see a little more skin from Daenerys Targaryen, Keith has a lot of fan momentum and I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a little Jakeithus toosh this week.
4. The NFL OWNER (Last Week 7)- Tywin Lannister's team seems to rely on his cornerstone Aaron Rogers' performance and this week he didn't disappoint. The part of his team I'm interesting in seeing more about is what is happening with Calvin Johnson? We take it for granted that Johnson is the best WR out there, but even he will show signs of coming back down to earth at some time. I'm just not sure when that will be, hopefully for Tywin it's not this year as his lineup is one of the best in the league with a healthy Megatron!
5. The Oh That's Nasty (Last Week 3)- Bad luck this week for Dawson, with AJ Green out on the BYE Week Blizzard he had to do some tinkering. Tyrion Lannister's intellect couldn't have gotten him a win against Shayne. Without having Green in his lineup and his running backs put up the same amount of stats, he looked positively impish. The later fact will give Dawson a difficult decision (Outside of Bell) at RB each week. On the positive side it looks like Bishop Sankey is finally taking over the number one RB position and could be a consistent point provider.
6. The AARON-PRIMETIME-CLAPPERTON (Last Week 4)- The dark lord was neutralized from TFLOEG with The Magikal Statistical Change of 2014, but his influence over Altus remains. He called his shot (read: spell) over Curt and got back to .500. Keep an eye out for him fellas, I get the feeling that he's a sneaky "dark" horse all season.
7. The NINERS (Last Week 6)- Stan's week was over by the end of Thursday night's game. Kirk Cousins' poor performance cost Garcon and Paul a nice stat sheet, but Morris continued to look encouraging. I'm not going to take too much out of this week as Stan's typical starting team was a part of the Bye Week Blizzard, my hope is he'll be back (albeit after studying how to become an assassin in Bravos for a couple of weeks)!
8. The RW Throws A Sexy Deep Ball (Last Week 8)- I feel like Lombardi was talking directly to Chip Kelly and his use of his back field. McCoy is by far my favorite RB to watch (Giovanni is a close second), but within the five yard line Nick Foles threw it twice. Once to Brent Celek (will that guy ever say die?) and once to the ground. The reason Andrew's team isn't firing is almost completely due to McCoy's misuse and unfortunately Andrew's season depends on a change happening in the Philly play calling. After a Jamie Lannister-esque fall from grace, I get the feeling he'll be back (albeit possibly with a new "hand").
9. The What Are The Chances (Last Week 9)- On a positive note Curt almost beat Aaron. Unfortunately, it was due to his Cowboys producing huge against a terrible Saints defense. It may be difficult to recreate those results on a weekly basis. I can't remember the name of the kid at the inn who makes bread, but it makes sense.
10. The BISP (Last Week 10)- Mike can't catch a break, even with my Bye Week Blizzard woes and Eli's career day he couldn't pull out a win. If you were a character in the Seven Kingdoms you'd be dead already.
Winter came and went with the BYE Week Blizzard. Time to start looking forward to Week Five!
