Last Place Wisdom: The Final Countdown

It's been a little crazy trying to keep up with blogging over the last couple of weeks, but with it being finals week, I figure it certainly deserves a post, regardless of who all will read it.

Plus, it's the perfect opportunity for this great Arrested Development  moment, which is a good enough reason in and of itself.

First, as disappointed as I was to lose 1st overall to Andrew in the last week of the regular season, it turned out to be a blessing as it meant I didn't have to face Jamaal Charles and his 51 points. Of course, it is very likely that Charles does something similar this week, but I'll deal with that when it comes to it.

I'm both nervous and excited about this week's game, although I won't get to watch very closely due to Dawson scheduling his wedding for the same week as the fantasy finals. Maybe this is a good thing, as it will keep the stress down to more manageable levels.

Previewing the matchup, in my opinion it really is too close to call. I have a tough call to make at QB, as I've run with Stafford all season long, but will probably go with Rivers due to Staffords struggles in recent weeks. Steve has a tough call between Smith, Cutler and Romo, as they all have decent matchups. He will probably go with Smith, who has been hot recently, but has the potential to put up single digit points any week. Any of the 5 potential starters could have the best week, so there's no real advantage.

RB is another tough one. I like my 3 (Lynch, Lacy, Stacy) better than Charles, Morris and Jennings, although Charles is definitely the best and Morris has a great matchup. Jennings has played extremely well in recent weeks though, although the same can be said of Stacy who will be going up against him. Once again, there is no real advantage.

I think my big advantage is at WR. Marshall and Brown are more consistent than Jackson and Nelson, and have the much better matchups. I'll need to win the WR matchup in order to put this game away.

TE is perhaps the most interesting. Thomas is the better player, and he has a good matchup against Houston. Eifert has some upside, and Minnesota is the worst Defense against TEs. I may start Pitta and hope for some consistent points. I really wish I had Gronkowski going for me this week.

No one cares about kickers, although I'm hoping Dan Bailey doesn't put up 20+ points again.

Carolina is the better defense, but it's a little nerve racking playing them against New Orleans. Thankfully, New Orleans is on the road, as the only bad game the Panther's defense has played was against the Saints in the Superdome.

I'm not going to make any predictions about the result of the game. This is all you can ask for a this point however, one game to determine if you can be the champion. At this point, it's down to luck, and I think my odds are as good as could be hoped for.

On the Next Last Place Widsom:
  • I either celebrate or congratulate Steve, depending on the outcome.
  • I provide a season overview and a look at how my draft strategy worked out.
