Last Place Wisdom: Cokcokcaw Cokcokcaw

My desire to keep my winning streak alive means that there is no way I can stop writing blog posts now, for fear of some sort of karmic retribution. I'm going to keep it straightforward and to the point.

Before I get to that however, I will say that there is no shortage of chickens in this league, as the trade that took place today took some courage.

Week 11 was another good week for me, as it helped solidify my chance at getting a 1st round bye. Aaron also came up huge in Week 11, upsetting Shayne to keep himself firmly in the playoff race. At this point, he still has a shot at catching Steve, so it's possible he finishes higher than 6th even. Dawson is the final big winner, keeping his hopes alive, although it is something of a long shot.

Playoff picture
John, Mike and Curtis are not officially eliminated, but need to win out and hope Aaron loses out to have a shot. It will take some big weeks to overcome the tiebreaker against him as well.

Dawson is a game back of Aaron, and 2 games back of Steve. He also needs to overcome anywhere from an 80-120 point deficit to take the tiebreaker against either one.

Aaron is holding the last playoff spot over Dawson by a game and 80 points. He's still in control of his own destiny.

Steve can clinch with a win, although his 120 point lead over Dawson will be tough to overcome in 2 weeks.

Everyone else has clinched the playoffs, with Andrew and I having the inside track on the bye week.

Trade Deadline Discussion
I hear there were some rumblings about the thought process going into mine and Curtis' trade, so I'll break it down.

WR was the only position that worried me, as I didn't have a lot of depth after my top 2. I wanted a guy I could consider starting, and Cruz fit that perfectly. Curtis needed some keepers for next year, as Knowshon Moreno was really the only guy you could classify as a good keeper option. Both Ellington and Allen, while not sure things, give Curtis good value in the later rounds. Plus, if Arizona would ever realize that Mendenhall is turrible, I think Ellington has the talent to be a Jamaal Charles or CJ Spiller-when-he-was-still-good type running back.

John's fire sale caught me off guard, but was not surprising. There are some interesting names that he dropped, who certainly have the talent to affect the fantasy playoffs, but who have been so bad this year you can't really trust them.

I'm not sure what to think about the blockbuster Shayne-Stan trade. I think Shayne gave up more talent, and it could come back to bite him Peyton, Welker and Peterson get healthy for the playoffs. On the other hand, if you don't trust Peyton in the cold, or feel that Peterson might not hold up the rest of the year, it could work out big time. I guess the determining factor is DeMarco Murray, who I don't like at all, but who has good matchups during the fantasy playoffs and could swing the trade one way or the other.

Week 12 Preview
Curtis has a chance to play spoiler against me this week, as it could put Andrew and I into a must-win showdown to get the 1st round bye. I like my chances, but stranger things have happened.

The Fear Boners vs The Dump Buddies - John is playing for pride, and the first overall selection. Andrew's top players are on bye, and he is relying heavily on Cleveland. Kris Durham shows Andrew that it was a bad move to drop him after all.

BISP vs oh that's nasty - Mike left 96 points on his bench last week. His team has talent, but he's had problems starting the right guys all year. Dawson's team looks dangerous if he can just make the playoffs, which might be asking too much at this point.

NFL Owner vs NINERS - The trade goes through on Sunday morning, meaning this will be an interesting matchup to watch as they jockey for playoff seeding. Shayne is left without a QB for this week, with Dalton on bye and Rodgers injured, so it looks like he will be starting one of Carson Palmer/Alex Smith/Mike Glennon.

The Miracle Mets 1969 vs Sideliners - Huge playoff seeding implications for this game. Aaron is on a bit of a roll, and can complete his miracle comeback with a win this week. Steve has struggled recently, and I don't like his decision to start Miles Austin over Jordy Nelson or Danny Amendola.

On the next Last Place Wisdom:
  • I write some stuff about week 13
  • One of Stan or Shayne is crushed after a major piece of their trade goes down with a season ending injury.
  • I look like a genius with my midseason predictions of Aaron makes the playoffs/I finish in 1st.

  1. One of my favourite parts all year has been the repeated spelling of turrrrible.
