Last Place Wisdom: Shouldn't the Articles be called something else by now?
Well, the 49ers and Jaguars got done playing their games in Britain
this week, in what can only be described as a game “For British Eyes Only”.
London has now been treated to football teams that have a combined record of
9-21. Take out the 49ers, who everyone hates, and its 3-19. Great job in
promoting the NFL globally, NFL. Londoners can now go back to watching out for
Mary Poppins and enjoying their bread soup.
As was brought up on the podcast last week, this week saw
the top 5 teams in the league play the bottom 5 teams. In an unsurprising and
boring outcome, everyone that was probably expected to win did, while everyone
who wasn’t did not. The only real exciting matchup was probably between Andrew
and Mike, coming down to Monday night. The Seahawks did just enough for Andrew
to pull it out, in what was otherwise an incredibly boring game.
This week had one major outcome, and that was that it adds a
bit of clarity into who makes the playoffs. At this point, the top 5 look to be
fairly secure, but the last and final spot is wide open. It will be exciting to
watch that last spot being fought over, as it could come down to tiebreakers
and the final couple of weeks.
It was a bit of a heartbreaking week for Aaron, as he put up
the third best number of points, but unfortunately ended up going against
Calvin Johnson. On the plus side, he is still only 1 game back of the final
playoff spot.
Mr.Manager of the
Week Award
I’m going to give it to Andrew this week, for picking up and
starting the New Orleans Saints D/ST. They ended up putting out an extremely
solid game, and ended up making a big difference in a tight matchup.
Waiver Wire
Not a great week for the Waiver Wire. Philip Rivers is an
interesting option at QB, while Mike Tolbert is the only RB I would consider.
Marvin Jones will probably turn his best game ever into a wavier pick up, while
I could see Andrew picking up Golden Tate simply to be the poster boy for
taunting the opposition.
Injuries
Not nearly as many major injuries this week. Mike Vick had a
totally unsurprising injury that nicely sums up how well John’s season has been
going so far. Julius Thomas had to leave his game with an ankle injury, but it
doesn’t sound too serious and they have a bye this week.
Random Thoughts
I know, I know, everyone always looks forward to my random
thoughts. I just don’t have a lot of thoughts to share this week.
The only football game I really watched this weekend was
Dallas-Detroit, and it was pretty fantastic. As a Stafford owner, it was
incredibly frustrating to watch him and Calvin Johnson get continually tackled
at the 1 yard line and taking point away from me, or else to watch the Lions thrown
and fumble the game away. I also got to watch an 80yrd touchdown to Dez Bryant
that helped Dawson out in a big way.
Stafford to Megatron was a thing of beauty however, and
watching Stafford call his own number to catch Dallas off guard and score the
winning touchdown was fantastic.
Week 3 Preview
Sexy Sacks Men vs BISP – It’s not looking good for Mike this
week. He has 4 players on bye, Foster is still injured, and he hasn’t had his
bench players step up. The most interesting thing to watch will be to see if
Kenny Stills can start to play like a #1, or go back to being inconsistent.
John watching his pre-season sleeper benefit Mike would probably crush his
spirit completely at this point. I’m hoping I can find an adequate replacement
for Stafford, but otherwise I like my chances.
NINERS vs The Fear Boners – John catches a small break with
the 49ers on bye this week. Personally, it would be nice to see John get some
more wins, as it would help separate the top teams from one another.
Oh that’s nasty vs The Miracle Mets 1969 – This game is probably the biggest when it
comes to playoff positioning. If Aaron can win, he puts himself right into the
conversation, where Dawson can give himself the inside track on the last
playoff spot. Aaron will be in tough, considering that the QB situation in Philly
has hurt Desean Jackson’s value, and Reggie Bush is on bye.
What are the Chances vs Sideliners – Curtis has 6 players on
bye this week, so it’s going to be a rough one for him. On the plus side, he
has both Rice and Jackson playing for the first time since Week 1 I believe, so
it would be nice if he can get his top picks going. Steve continues to roll.
Andrew’s Team vs NFL Owner – The other big game of the week,
this time with 1st place on the line. It’ll be interesting to watch
how the backups perform, as Denver’s entire passing game is sitting on the
bench in this game, and players like Dwayne Bowe and Nate Washington could end
up being the difference.
On the next Last Place Wisdom:
I recap Week 9, which isn’t as exciting without Peyton or
Megatron to go crazy in it.
Andrew, learning from Golden Tate, steps his smack talk up
to new levels.
John pulls out all the stops in convincing Mike to trade him
Kenny Stills.

Also of note, I beat Mike in Fantasy Hockey as well this week.
