The Reading Dwayne-Bowes
Prologue : The Great White Hype
The past hadn't been kind to the team formerly know as the WhiteKnucklers. Well known in The Fantasy League of Extraordinary Gentleman as a true under performer with a manager that could be best described as Al Davis reincarnate, blowing draft picks year after year with little draft strategy and placing all his picks with his heart and not with his head. Making rash trades in hope of bringing life to a line-up that had been struggling much like the Jets. The outlook for the future of this franchise could only be compared to the Phoenix Coyotes. Bleak. But just as things were looking the darkest, a light on the horizon began to glow.
With temperatures in the high thirties, the leagues managers once again convened for what would be called the best draft The Fantasy League of Extraordinary Gentlemen had laid witness to. With ninety percent of the team managers in attendance and only one out of town idiot set on John-Draft, things were about to kick off. The draft order was set with NFL Owner taking the first overall pick in the 2013 draft of The Fantasy League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
First off the board was the unanimous first overall pick, Adrian Peterson, but that is where all expert lists ended. Running backs continued to fly off the table with a smattering or surprise coming when LeSean McCoy was taken much earlier than expected. The outlook on this fifth overall pick had been high all off-season ever since the Eagles signed coach Chip Kelly in the off season. Kelly ran what had become known as the most dynamic offence in college and all eyes were on him to see if he would be able to bring the same offensive firepower that he controlled in college to the pro game. It was a risky pick for the then known WhiteKnucklers, whom in past years would be happy to make a conservative first round pick who would be consistent week to week but not have championship leading breakout weeks which are a necessity. It would soon become evident that this manager had been doing a fair share of homework.
The draft continued to snake its way back and forth between managers with each team slowly being filled to try to be competitive. Running backs continued to be taken as well as the elite wide receivers started to make their way onto teams. Rogers and Brees were the first quarterbacks gone in the draft as managers sought to try to give their teams an edge that come with taking one of the premier passers.
Eyes once again turned as the WhiteKnucklers selected a suspended Josh Gordon as their forth wide out. A player with a huge upside had fallen off the radars of most of the leagues managers as he will start the season missing the first two games with the aforementioned suspension. The impending suspension did not deter the WhiteKnucklers from taking a chance on the young receiver. With hopes of using him to either fill spots on the roster during bye weeks or hoping that he starts to go off when Weeden continues to calm down in the pocket like he showed in the pre-season, Gordon has a chance to propel the team formerly known as the WhiteKnucklers to a deep fantasy play-off run.
The stares towards the manager of the WhiteKnucklers began to turn yellow with jealousy as the other managers began to see the team that continued to lay out before them. Loading up with solid starting running backs as well as hoarding good back-ups to injury prone starters, consistent wide receivers who would be on the receiving end of one of the greatest passers of all time, Peyton Manning, and a young second year quarterback who has continued to make positive refinements to his game, the WhiteKnucklers were looking to go all in in 2013 and come out with a championship. The managers of the league had never seen anything like this out of the WhiteKnucklers and most were starting to mark their upcoming match-ups on their calenders.
Would this be a new direction for the WhiteKnucklers?
