Last Place Wisdom: Well, that was a freebie
Week 3 was not the most exciting week for mine and Curtis’
matchup. Curtis had one of those fantasy weeks that can happen to anyone at any
given time, and going up against a team when it happens leaves you only
thinking one thing:
Better things are no
doubt in score for Curtis’ team, but with his top 2 Running Backs out with
injury, the Giants being shut out completely, and Jermichael leaving the game
without a catch, there was little hope of Curtis being able to pull it out.
Talking to Curtis, he agreed that it’s better for this type of event to happen
all at once, rather than lose a couple of games by 2 or 3 points, which I can
agree with since the same thing basically happened to me in Week 1.
I had a solid week, thanks to the Lions playing Washington
with Reggie Bush being out, and Antonio Brown being Pittsburgh’s only reliable
weapon. I’m feeling better about my team as a whole, as it is starting to look
like a number of solid options are emerging, even if some of my top picks
continue to disappoint.
The game of the week certainly came down to Shayne and Stan,
with a single point separating the two during a huge Monday night game. Garbage
time points from Run DMC almost allowed Stan to pull off the miracle comeback,
but Peyton Manning has certainly been the most consistently great QB to start
the season.
At this point, Andrew and Shayne are the top bananas at 3-0,
while John and Aaron are still looking for their first wins. John has gotten
unlucky with his points against, although his points for have not been good.
The real unlucky one has been Steve, whose points for should have led to a
better start than his 1-2 record.
Mr.Manager of the
Week Award
This week, I want to give the award to Andrew for his bold
trust in the Cleveland Browns. Although he didn’t trust them enough to start
Gordon this week, his pickup of Cameron was some truly good drafting, as he has
put up the 3rd best Weeks 1-3 by a TE in Fantasy History (only
Graham and Gronk are better). Cameron going shot for shot with Jimmy Graham was
a big part of Andrew’s win this week.
On the opposite end, I told you to feel good about starting
Bilal Powell in the preview for this week. Mike apparently didn’t listen.
Waiver Wire
Well, of course now that Royal got picked up, he doesn’t
score a touchdown (it was close, only getting one called back by his penalty).
The biggest names I see this week include Jason Snelling,
Kenbrell Thompkins (now that I’ve dropped him) and possibly someone from the
surprising New York Jets.
Injuries
This week saw a number of guys who had the potential to
play, end up sitting out, which included Reggie Bush being a late scratch much
to my excitement and Aaron’s disappointment.
Aaron’s bad news continues with Andre Johnson getting banged
up more, while John’s RB nightmare continued with CJ Spiller getting taken out
(although he sounds like he’s not too hurt). Jermichael Finley and Daryl
Richardson round out the big names taken out of the game.
Random Thoughts
Looking back at my draft wisdom, I couldn’t have been more
wrong on my “Solid as a Rock” picks. Just go back and look at it: http://tfloegcanada.blogspot.ca/2013/09/last-place-wisdom-draft-recap.html#more
Seriously, it was horrible. My other analysis was probably
as mediocre as you could expect, but I really, really bombed at predicting the
players that would be solid contributors each and every week.
Denver’s RB situation is more frustrating than anyone
expected at this point. It certainly seems like a different runner might be the
lead back each week, while the guy who has been perhaps the best of the bunch
(Monte Ball) keeps fumbling away his opportunities.
I hardly watched any actual football this week, so my random
thoughts are fewer than usual. I’ve always said that by Week 4 you can start to
figure out what your team actually is, since there is enough of a track record
to make at least slightly informed judgements. Next weeks’ posting might
include something along those lines.
Week 3 Preview
Sexy Sacks Men vs The Reading Dwayne-Bowes – A statement
game in my mind, as I attempt to show that I belong in the league’s elite, and
Andrew attempts to separate from the pack. It could get ugly as Andrew’s Denver
receivers have a great matchup against Philly, while I’m hoping Gronkowski can
make his debut to matchup against Jordan Cameron.
The War Boners vs BISP – It’s the Boner Bowl!!! If John is
looking for his first win, this will be the week. Indy against Jacksonville is
a good match-up, while Mike is hurt big time by having Carolina on a bye. John
has a big decision about CJ Spiller, as his upside is pretty great, but has a lot more risk than a guy like Sproles.
NFL Owner vs Oh that’s Nasty – Another statement game, with
2 teams that are either trying to keep pace, or separate from the pack. Dawson
appears to be considering benching Tom Brady and Tony Gonzalez, which would
certainly be a bold move, and could win him the Manager of the Week award if
successful.
The Godfather vs What Are the Chances – This is the perfect
opportunity for Aaron to get a win as well, going up against Curtis’ injured
team. Kansas City has a great defense, so Curtis might need to consider other
options at WR.
Sideliners vs NINERS – Steve might be getting some good luck
for once, as Stan has 3 important players on a bye. Of course Steve has some
guys out on a bye as well, and is facing a number of injuries at WR. Stan will
need to watch the health status of Vernon Davis, as that could play a big role
considering his other option is on bye.
On the next Last Place Widsom:
I recap Week 3, where everyone finally gets to win.
