Two-A-Days: The Idea and The Best of the Best
Hey Fellas,
I was thinking about a conversation that Andrew, Curt and I had over breakfast on Saturday, in it Curt felt like he was "going to have to research hard" to be competitive at the draft. Since he's a busy father I thought I might start a new thread of posts called "Two-a-Days" in it I'll do a brief overlook of two team's probable rosters and maybe give some subtle winks. I'm not going to go crazy over a team's sleeper appeal (as that would cause Keith's brain to explode) and, rest assured, this won't be a hand holder series. It's designed to be a who's who on the team and that is all, so you all can draft a WR2 with a little more confidence.
Obviously, we need to start somewhere and as I hate saving the best for last,
Quarterback-
Jake Locker (U of Washington Huskies)- Jake is one of those 2011 draft class QBs that are on the hot seat to put up or shut up. Although he had Heisman potential in college, he's had a hard time staying healthy in the big leagues. When he is on the field he's produced modest stats, but nothing to write home about. He doe's have the potential to be a mobile quarterback and in camp there has been rumors of the pistol offense being implemented in conjunction with the next fella on our list.
Backup: Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Running Backs-
Chris Johnson (U of East Carolina)- CJ2K (or my greatest/worst pick ever) hasn't been terrible over the past two seasons, he just hasn't achieved the success of his 2009 season breaking the 2000 yard mark. His inconsistent weekly performance has been blamed on many things, most notably the offensive line. Luckily for him the Titans' staff listened drafted Chance Warmack (RG U of Alabama) tenth overall this year and added Andy Levitre (LG U of Oregon State) in free agency from the Buffalo Bills. Looks like he should have all he needs to finally become CJ2.5K!
Backup: Shonn Greene
Wide Recievers-
Kenny Britt (U of Rutgers)- This guy is the definition of the high risk/reward. He's produced in spades when he's healthy, but that's when he's healthy. So far in training camp, I've heard... well nothing other then he's healthy and given the amount of times his name came up last year is very positive.
Kendall Wright (U of Baylor)- A second year pro with high upside.
Backup: Nate Washington, Kevin Walter
Tight End-
Delanie Walker (U of Central Missouri St)- Not much is known about him, supposidly he played for a shitty team up until last season. Little to no fantasy appeal.
Quarterback-
Not worth your time, move along downward.
Running Backs-
Some people call him Maurice, Jones-Drew (U of CLA)- He's sounded healthy so far this camp and he's in a "contract season" (two words that make Keith sploosh in fantasy). One year removed from leading the league in rushing, can he do it again? Probably not, but he has potential to be a good part of a fantasy roster as he isn't in a "RB Committee" (two words that make me sploosh in real life).
Backup: Justin Forsett, and "The Offensive Weapon" Denard Robinson
Wide Receivers-
Cecil Shorts III (U of Mount Union)- A surprise fantasy darling that I'm almost positive stayed on the waiver wire due to the complete distrust of Jaguars in the TFLOEG. He has the potential to be the number one in Jacksonville for the first four weeks as Justin Blackmon is suspended (Wa-Wa :s).
Justin Blackmon (U of Oklahoma St)- If this guy had a life coach like Dez Bryant I'd love his upside. If last year was any indication he could be a WR2 or a flex and win you a week depending on the match-up. He's a high risk though for injury and suspension (Wa-Wa :s)!
Tight End-
Marcedes Lewis (U of CLA)- Yes he still plays there. No you shouldn't draft him.

No more "splooshing" over contract seasons necessary?

The only useful information that you could have put in this post was woefully missed. Should we take the kicker of either team and in which round?
ReplyDeleteAll I know is that if we we're given points for punters in this league, Jacksonville's would probably be a star (after John Ryan). You have to be a pretty great punter to get drafted in the third round, or else Jacksonville just sucks. You decide.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question.... no. You should take Sebastian Janikowski. That is all.
Or in your case, Mason Crosby.
ReplyDeleteYeah, for Jacksonville to take a punter and pass over Wilson shows the direction the team is headed. At least they could have filled seats if they would have brought TRT into the fold.
